The Time Problem

I just spent two hours exploring and reading blogs. I find I'm spending more time online than I want, and I need to figure out how much is enough, how much is excessive. Time management has never been my great talent! And the trouble is - all this online time is very pleasurable to me!

I'm teaching two online courses this summer for my college, so that has added to my online time, but other than that, I know I must put on some brakes. My dogs and my husband are being neglected! Anyone else had this dilemma? How did you handle it?

My brand?

I don't think I have much of a brand, and I realize that I'm still hanging on just a little to that old "protect yourself" privacy thing on the internet. Do any of you remember when we were terrified to use our "real name" - and now we're thrilled if we can use just that as our email address!

I googled my name and found many others, including others with my name who teach psychology or are psychologists like me.

So I went back to my blog and put in my full name, not just Judith, and even identified the college where I teach. And didn't feel one bit anxious about it!

Gotta find some good pictures, etc. to personalize my blog further before I'm happy. But now it's on to Number 3. Time to tweet again!

Why do these 23 great things?

I'm always looking for ways to challenge my online skills, especially since I'm teaching a few courses online and working with students who are internet natives!

There's not lots of money on my community college campus for professional development travel, and so a free MOOC is a great way to go.

Finally, I'm curious about how other online courses work - and whether they do or not. I'm looking forward to this adventure and already understand how easy it is for my students to "forget" they're taking an online course!

A New blog!

Yes, I know. Just what the world needs . . . another blog. I'm creating this one three reasons.

One, it's part of a professional development project I'm doing called "23 Great Things for Professional Development" at http://cpd23.blogspot.com/2011/05/all-about-23-things.html.

Second, it's a chance to share my lost and founds, joys, ideas, fun stuff, etc. with friends, acquaintances, strangers, nobody, and myself.

And third (because I love threes!) it's a challenge to write on a regular basis.
